MORE AMERICANS GETTING, AND NOT ABLE TO PAY OFF, CREDIT CARDS
- Credit bureau TransUnion released its quarterly insights report this morning, showing that 10 million individuals opened new credit card accounts in the past year, and that the total amount outstanding on credit cards increased 6% from a year ago, to $662 billion. Meanwhile, the delinquency rate on credit cards and auto loans increased during the past year, while the delinquency rate on personal loans and mortgages decreased.

AG OF OHIO BEING SUED FOR ALLOWING “UNREASONABLE” COLLECTION FEES
- The attorney general of Ohio is being sued by a number of individuals with defaulted student loans for allegedly allowing collection agencies and law firms to add on “unreasonable” collection costs. In some cases, the collection costs represent more than 70% of the amount being sought by collection agencies, according to the plaintiffs, who are being represented by the Legal Aid Society of Columbus. There are four separate lawsuits that have been filed so far.
SURVEY REVEALS WHAT COLLECTION AGENCIES ARE LOOKING FOR IN COLLECTORS
- Integrity is the most important trait that collection agencies are looking for in a collector, and active listening is the most important skill, according to a survey of individuals conducted by ACA International. Honesty, patience, and politeness were the next most important traits, according to the survey, which was conducted during ACA’s annual conference in Denver this past June.
