WISCONSIN LIBRARIES SENDING OVERDUE ACCOUNTS TO COLLECTIONS

  • A pair of public library systems in Wisconsin are planning to start sending overdue accounts to collection agencies, thanks to a new state law that went into effect earlier this year allowing the practice. Any individual with overdue materials in excess of $50 can have their account sent to collections. “Some libraries want to start [using collection agencies] yesterday,” said the director of one library system in Wisconsin.

A PRIMER ON MARKETPLACE LENDING

  • A growing number of collection agencies are looking at marketplace lending as a potential business opportunity. The industry itself is small, but gaining popularity, and marketplace lenders, also known as peer-to-peer lenders, are just starting to see their first problems with delinquencies and defaults. Here is an overview of the industry and some of the issues when it comes to servicing and collecting those debts.
