The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has scheduled a field hearing for Thursday, July 28 in Sacramento, Calif., to discuss the debt collection industry.
Those who want to attend the hearing can RSVP by going to https://consumer-financial-protection-bureau.forms.fm/cfpb-field-hearing-about-debt-collection.
It is widely anticipated that the CFPB will publish its proposed debt collection rule — or some form thereof — in the day or two leading up to the field hearing. CFPB Director Richard Cordray is expected to attend the hearing.
The CFPB has convened a Small Business Regulatory Fairness Enforcement Act hearing on the debt collection rule for the week of August 22. An outline of the proposed rules were expected to be released prior to that hearing. It now appears that the proposed rule will be released by the end of the month.
