HOSPITAL FACING CLASS-ACTION LAWSUIT FOR SENDING UNPAID DEBTS TO COLLECTIONS TOO SOON

  • A hospital in Seattle is facing a class-action lawsuit for allegedly sending unpaid bills to collection agencies too quickly and not investigating whether those patients were able to have their bills covered the state’s charity care program. The suit potentially includes 134,000 individuals who received medical care at the hospital.

TENN. CITY HIRES COLLECTION AGENCY

  • The city of Fairview, Tenn., has hired American Municipal Services to help it recover more than $60,000 in unpaid fines and fees. AMS can charge up to a 30% over and above what is owed to the city when it collects from individuals, according to the city’s attorney.
