THE FIGHT AGAINST ALLOWING ROBOCALLS
- A pair of House Democrats have introduced a companion bill that seeks to unwind a law that will allow collectors trying to collect on debt guaranteed by the federal government to use automated dialers to contact individuals. The House bill mirrors legislation already introduced in the Senate that would remove the dialer exemption. Also, state attorneys general have taken up the charge and are also lobbying to repeal the measure.
DEBT COLLECTOR INDICTED FOR 41 FELONIES
- Alan Ceccarelli, a debt collector that used nearly a half-dozen different company names, has been indicted on 41 counts felon counts, including wire fraud and identity theft. Officials estimate that the man took $1 million during the past three years collecting debts that people did not owe.
