BILL WOULD REPEAL IRS OUTSOURCING
- A New York Congressman has introduced a bill that is seeking to repeal the requirement that the Internal Revenue Service hire third-party debt collectors to help recover some unpaid balances. The amount that collection agencies are allowed to charge on top of the debt “is not equitable,” according to Rep. Dan Meeks.
BK FILINGS DECLINE
- The number of bankruptcy filings in 2015 declined 10% from a year earlier, according to data released by the American Bankruptcy Institute. There are some predictions that filings could increase in 2016 as interest rates rise and debt burdens increase.
UAE LOOKING FOR COLLECTORS
- Companies in the United Arab Emirates are hiring debt collectors, including some in the U.S., to collect from owners of small businesses who owe money in the UAE but have left the country. Small business owners who have left the UAE owing more than $1.4 billion because liquidity is drying up as the oil business is becoming less profitable.
