COLLECTIONS INDUSTRY A ‘HOT MESS’
- The collections industry is a “hot mess” and the industry would benefit from a national database of debts because there is no way for a consumer to “verify whether a debt collector is telling the truth,” according to a column in the American Banker. The column points to databases being built and maintained by Convoke Systems and Global Debt Registry, and includes comments from Jan Stieger, executive director of DBA International, who says she does not expect the CFPB to issue its proposed debt collection rule until 2017.
ROBOCALL NUMBERS SURGE
- There were nearly 1 billion robocalls made to U.S. phones in the month of November, up 43% from October, according to one data provider. According to the report. 15 of the 20 most frequent dialers of robocalls were debt collectors.
