SENATOR: FEDERAL GOV’T SHOULD HAVE TO COMPLY WITH FDCPA
- Sen. Cory Booker [D-N.J.] has turned to CNN to garner support for a bill he has introduced to add more consumer protections to the debt collection process. In an Op-Ed published yesterday, Booker writes that “collectors are too often taking advantage of loopholes in the law to abusively and unrelentingly target families who may — or may not — owe money.” Booker’s bill would require departments of the federal government be required to comply with the FDCPA, while also commissioning an official government study of the debt collection process at the state and local level.
