Americans owe each other more than $50 billion in small debts, according to data published by PayPal. To help people recoup those fees, the payments company has started a new service, called paypal.me.
When you sign up, you get our own personal PayPal.me link that you can share with friends and family who owe you money. Once you share the link, people see this page:
And they can automatically send money to you. The goal of the service is to replace IOUs and other, more cumbersome, personal collection tools.
The link can be shared via text, email, instant messenger, social media post, blog, or on the web. The service is currently available in 18 countries: U.S., Germany, UK, Australia, Canada, Russia, Turkey, France, Italy, Spain, Poland, Sweden, Belgium, Norway, Denmark, Netherlands, Switzerland, and Austria.
