Welcome to a new regular feature on AccountsRecovery.net. The collections and debt-buying industries are tight-knit communities, but there is a lot that we do not know about each other. To rectify that, we will be posting profiles of members on a regular basis. If you are interested in being profiled, please contact me via email.

Length of time in industry
22 years
How did you get your start in the industry?
My college roommate (Barry Jennings, my co-founder of APR) started in the industry right out of college and thought I would be a great fit for the industry.
What is your career highlight so far?
Having an 11-year old company being named one of the Best Places to Work in Collections for seven years running. We started the company with three goals, technology, customer service and creating a great place to work, so to see that our employees love working here makes me proud every day.
Which industry professional do you admire most?
My industry mentor has always been Jay Gonsalves form Action Collection Agencies. His accomplishments in business, his service to the industry, and his integrity are things a admire most (and he is just a great all around guy).
What is one thing you do better than everyone else?
I think our customer service is over the top! Everyone can collect money, send letter and make calls (although we do this better than many also) but “customer service, you will actually notice” is one of ongoing goals
What do you like most about this industry?
The people. When most people hear the term “debt collector” they instantly get a look on their face and an image in their mind. Once you start to meet the individuals who do our very difficult job you realize the passion and professionalism in our industry.
What is one thing you wish you could change about this industry?
Simple! The onslaught of frivolous lawsuits!
If you weren’t in this industry, what would you be doing?
Playing or coaching professional football. The only problem was that I didn’t have the size, speed, talent or knowledge!
Describe a typical work day
Sometimes fireman, sometimes problem solver, sometimes advisor. Getting things done and helping others in our organization to do the same.
What is your guilty pleasure?
Buying and sorting sports cards.
What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
It was actually a quote:
“Take a minute: look at your goals, look at your performance, see if your behavior matches your goals.”
― Kenneth H. Blanchard
What are you currently reading?
A Harlan Coben thriller and “Good to Great” (again!)
What is one fact you’d like everyone in the industry to know about you?
Love coaching my four kids and spending time on Cape Cod with my family.
Who else would you like to see answer these questions?
Jay Gonsalves, Roger Weiss, Rick Doane, Andy Madden and Rob Foehl
