JUDGE WARNS DEFENSE OVER OMISSIONS IN DENYING MOTION TO DISMISS FDCPA CASE
- A federal judge in Florida has denied a defendant’s motion to dismiss a class-action lawsuit alleging the company violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Florida Consumer Collections Act by charging a convenience fee when making monthly withdrawals from the plaintiff’s bank account.
FTC TO PUBLISH COMPLAINT DATA MORE FREQUENTLY, LAUNCHES DATA VISUALIZATION TOOL
- The Federal Trade Commission has announced it will publish the consumer complaints it receives on a quarterly basis going forward, increasing the frequency from the annual publication it had been making. In making the data more available, the FTC has also unveiled a new data visualization tool that offers dashboards and access to the annual reports that the FTC has released in the past.
FED REPORT DETAILS PAYMENT FRAUD INCREASES
- The amount of payment fraud for general transactions and credit card payments increased by 36% between 2012 and 2015, according to data released yesterday by the Federal Reserve Board. The largest increase was in card-related fraud, which accounted for 78% of all instances, compared with 14% for ACH and 9% for checks.
