AccountsRecovery.net has launched its first podcast.
Featuring Eric Rosenkoetter and Brent Yarborough from the law firm of Maurice Wutscher, the podcast will analyze and provide perspective on important compliance-related topics for the ARM industry, but in a way that you don’t always hear from lawyers.
Called “The Least Sophisticated Podcast” in honor of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act’s least sophisticated consumer provisions, the podcast is available for free on iTunes or you can download individual episodes for free by clicking here.
“I’m thrilled to be providing important information via a new communication channel,” said Mike Gibb from AccountsRecovery.net. “Brent & Eric do a wonderful job of distilling very important topics into language that anyone – not just compliance experts – can understand and relate to.”
The podcast will be published weekly. Two episodes have been released so far. The first, called “Shark-Infested Safe Harbors” looks at some recent court decisions that have upended the language that collection agencies thought was ok to use in collection letters.
The second episode, “On Debt Buyers & Pot Dealers,” which looks at a number of new state laws that have been recently enacted related to the collections and debt-buying industries. In proving that the tone of the podcast is not what you think of when you think of compliance, see the “names” that the pair have come up with for the different state laws that were enacted last year, such as the:
- “The Maine Deforestation Act” (because of all the documentation requirements)
- “The Oregon Trail Ends In Idaho Without A License Act” (new debt buyer license requirements)
- “Colorado Where Debt Buyers Are As Cool As Pot Dealers Act” (because Colorado now regulates both)
- “The West Virginia Cure for the Wild & Not So Wonderful Act” (on that state’s new bill and particularly the “cure” requirement)
Episode three will look ahead at bills that are currently being considered in state legislatures across the country. If you have suggestions for future podcasts or questions, please contact Mike Gibb.
