Conifer Health Solutions, a unit of Tenet Healthcare, will lay off more than 80 workers as it plans to stop its debt collection operation at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory, N.C., according to a published report.
The company filed a notice with the state’s Department of Commerce, indicating that the layoffs would be effective as of March 31.
The news comes as Tenet is seeking a buyer for Conifer as a means of reducing company expenses. Conifer employee more than 16,000 people nationwide.
Conifer provides the majority of Tenet’s revenue, but the healthcare company is overladen with debt and its major shareholders have been lobbying for big changes to be made at the company. Tenet is carrying $15 billion in debt, according to a published report.
