A survey of consumers by Prudential Financial shows that a fair number of them are losing sleep over their financial situation.
Next to losing a loved one, being able to pay the bills is the biggest concern keeping Americans up at night, according to the survey. Losing household income was next, followed by saving for retirement, losing my job, and the overall state of the economy. Paying off student loans was the ninth-highest worry that is causing Americans to lose sleep or worry a lot.
What is interesting is that regardless of whether the individual has a post-graduate degree or did not attend college, the worries are virtually the same.
More than 40% of those surveyed said their happiness had improved during the past 10 years. Among that group, improvements in job security, personal wealth, and overall financial situation were also higher.
What is interesting is that 42% of Americans said their stress levels have worsened during the past 10 years. Among that group, nearly half of all women said they are more stressed, compared to 36% of all men.
