JUDGE AWARDS $60K TO LAWYERS AFTER PLAINTIFF WINS $200 IN JURY TRIAL
- A federal judge in Illinois has awarded more than $60,000 in legal fees to the attorneys who represented a plaintiff in a lawsuit alleging a collection law firm violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. The suit had been stayed for more than a year while a separate suit against the same defendants was being argued before the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. The kicker? The plaintiff won $200 in a jury trial.
HUNDREDS SHOW UP AT PRA GROUP JOB FAIR
- Hundreds of people showed up at a hotel in Burlington, N.C. on Saturday to apply for a job with PRA Group, which announced last week it was opening a call center in the area. Once opened, the call center will become one of the largest employers in the region, according to a published report. The owner of the mall where the call center will be located said the deal was won without offering PRA any tax breaks or incentives.
CORDRAY DID NOT VIOLATE ETHICS RULES
- Richard Cordray, the director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, has been cleared of any wrongdoing after he was accused of violating the Hatch Act, which prohibits employees of the federal government from running for office. Rumors have speculated that Cordray was considering a run for governor of Ohio, and Rep. Jeb Hensarling [R-Texas], the chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, had called for an investigation.
