KANSAS LEGISLATURE CONSIDERING BILL THAT WOULD REMOVE SALES TAX EXEMPTION FOR SERVICE COMPANIES, INCLUDING COLLECTION AGENCIES
- A proposed bill in the Kansas legislature would remove a sales tax exemption for certain types of businesses, including debt collections, and agencies in the state are worried that business will move to Missouri or other places if enacted. The exemption currently keeps agencies from having to charge a 6.5% sales tax on their services. The state is looking to roll back the exemption as a means of increasing overall tax revenues and decreasing a sales tax on food.

FCC ISSUES NPRM ON BLOCKING CERTAIN TYPES OF ROBOCALLS
- A notice has been published in the Federal Register, soliciting comments on a proposal to amend the Telephone Consumer Protection Act and grant telecom carriers more authority to block calls from being placed if it appears as though the incoming call is a robocall.
TOTAL HOUSEHOLD DEBT SURPASSES 2008 LEVEL; RED FLAGS RAISED ON CREDIT CARDS, AUTO LOANS
- The total amount of household debt reached $12.73 trillion as of the March 31, up $149 billion from the fourth quarter of 2016, according to data released yesterday by the Federal Reserve Board of New York.
