FCC TO ISSUE PROPOSED RULE ON DIALING TECHNOLOGY
- The Federal Communications Commission has indicated that a notice of proposed rulemaking will be forthcoming as the agency seeks to codify how companies can use modern dialing technologies when contacting consumers who have debts guaranteed by the federal government. The allowance was part of a bill that was signed into law in December and was meant to give collectors more ammunition in their efforts to collect on unpaid student loans.

- A profile of a Vanvouver, Washington-based collection agency, Mein Receivables. The company prides itself on using “compassion” and a “human touch” in its collections efforts, which seem to be going well since the firm opened last August.
BANKRUPTCY FILINGS DECLINE IN JANUARY
- Bankruptcy filings in January were 11 % lower than the same month last year, according to data released by the American Bankruptcy Institute. Commercial filings, the ABI noted, were higher in January, as “more debt-burdened businesses are turning to the financial fresh start of bankruptcy.”
